RF elements Introduces New Wideband Antenna Platform for 5 and 6 GHz Networks
New Symmetrical Horn WB antennas and UltraDish™ 29 WB allow WISPs to build across both unlicensed bands with a single antenna platform.
Bratislava, Slovakia - 11 July, 2024
RF elements today introduced the first products in its new Wideband antenna platform, designed to cover both the 5 GHz and 6 GHz unlicensed spectrum bands. The new portfolio includes the 30°, 60° and 90° Symmetrical Horn WB antennas, together with the UltraDish™ 29 WB high-gain directional antenna. The products operate across the 4900–7125 MHz frequency range, providing network operators with access to 2,225 MHz of spectrum through one antenna platform.
One Antenna. Two Bands.
The opening of the 6 GHz spectrum gives fixed wireless operators an important opportunity to add capacity and build cleaner networks. It also creates a practical challenge: networks must continue operating in 5 GHz while gradually adopting new 6 GHz radios and deployment strategies.
RF elements Wideband antennas address this transition directly. The same antenna can be used for 5 GHz, 6 GHz, or wideband operation covering both bands, depending on the connected radio and local regulatory conditions.
Operators can therefore deploy the antennas in existing 5 GHz networks today while keeping the same antenna infrastructure ready for future 6 GHz upgrades.
“We did not want to create a separate group of antennas that would solve only one part of the transition to 6 GHz,” said Juraj Taptic, CEO of RF elements. “We developed a wideband platform that allows operators to use the spectrum available today while remaining ready for what comes next. One antenna should support the network through more than one technology cycle.”
New Symmetrical Horn WB Series
The new Symmetrical Horn WB Series initially includes three beamwidth options:
SH30WB - 30° Symmetrical Horn WB
SH60WB - 60° Symmetrical Horn WB
SH90WB - 90° Symmetrical Horn WB
The antennas maintain symmetrical radiation patterns across the operating band and naturally suppress side lobes. This helps operators control where RF energy is transmitted and received, reject interference from outside the intended coverage area, and build scalable access-point clusters in demanding environments.
The range of beamwidths allows WISPs to design sectors around actual network requirements instead of relying on one universal antenna pattern.
UltraDish™ 29 WB
RF elements is also introducing the UltraDish™ 29 WB, a 29 dBi directional antenna designed for high-gain CPE and point-to-point applications across the 5 GHz and 6 GHz bands.
UltraDish™ 29 WB combines 2,225 MHz of operating bandwidth with an all-aluminium build, TwistPort™ connectivity, a robust mounting system, and optional accessories for demanding outdoor installations.
The antenna gives operators a common high-gain platform for current 5 GHz radios and emerging 6 GHz equipment, without requiring separate antenna inventories for each band.
TwistPort™ Connectivity
All products introduced within the new Wideband platform use the RF elements TwistPort™ waveguide connector.
Compatible waveguide radios can connect directly to the antenna. Other radios can be integrated through a dedicated TwistPort™ Adaptor, allowing RF elements to support multiple radio manufacturers while keeping the antenna platform independent of any single radio generation.
This separation between the radio and the antenna protects infrastructure investment and gives operators greater flexibility when selecting or upgrading active equipment.
While the antennas already support the full wideband frequency range, the current TwistPort™ Adaptor portfolio supports either 5 GHz or 6 GHz, reflecting the capabilities of radios currently available on the market. Wideband TwistPort™ Adaptors will become available as new radios supporting both bands enter the market.
Designed for Fixed Wireless Networks
The new antennas also introduce an updated mechanical and industrial design focused on long-term outdoor deployment.
Depending on the model, features include high-grade aluminium construction, compact dimensions, reduced tower and wind loading, stainless-steel hardware with anti-seize coating, the RF elements UBR mounting system, and integrated handling points for easier installation.
The Wideband platform represents a significant expansion of the RF elements antenna portfolio and establishes a common foundation for the company’s next generation of 5 GHz and 6 GHz products.
All Wideband products are developed in-house and manufactured at RF elements’ own production facility in Slovakia, European Union. This gives the company direct control over product design, engineering, testing, manufacturing quality, and future platform development.
Availability
The first products from the RF elements Wideband antenna platform are entering distribution. Availability may differ by country and distributor.
Detailed specifications, radiation patterns, installation documentation, and radio compatibility information are available through the RF elements website and authorised distribution partners.
