RF elements Announces New Asymmetrical Horn WB and 4x4 Wideband Antennas at WISPAPALOOZA 2024

Five new sector antennas extend the RF elements Wideband platform with asymmetrical beam performance and new deployment options for 4x4 networks.

Las Vegas, Nevada - October 15, 2024

RF elements today introduced its new Asymmetrical Horn WB Series and 4x4 Asymmetrical Horn WB Antennas at WISPAPALOOZA 2024 in Las Vegas. The five new antennas expand the RF elements Wideband platform introduced earlier in 2024. The portfolio now extends from Symmetrical Horn sector antennas and UltraDish™ directional antennas into RF elements’ flagship Asymmetrical Horn category and high-performance 4x4 deployments.

All new products cover the complete 4900-7125 MHz frequency range, allowing WISPs to use the same antenna platform across both 5 GHz and 6 GHz networks.

The Next Generation of Asymmetrical Horn Antennas

The new Asymmetrical Horn WB Series is the wideband evolution of RF elements’ award-winning Asymmetrical Horn antennas.

The series combines more than 2,000 MHz of operating bandwidth with the unique RF elements asymmetrical beam shape: wider in the azimuth plane and narrower in elevation. This provides the coverage expected from a sector antenna while maintaining higher gain and controlled vertical coverage.

The series initially includes three models:

AH45WB - 45° Asymmetrical Horn WB (45° azimuth / 20° elevation)
AH60WB - 60° Asymmetrical Horn WB (60° azimuth / 25° elevation)
AH90WB - 90° Asymmetrical Horn WB (90° azimuth / 25° elevation)

The selection of beamwidths allows network operators to design sectors around actual coverage and capacity requirements. Wider coverage areas can be divided into multiple narrower sectors, improving channel reuse and allowing network capacity to grow without relying on increasingly wide antenna patterns.

The antennas maintain stable gain and balanced radiation patterns across the operating band. Naturally suppressed side lobes reduce unwanted RF energy transmitted and received outside the main beam, supporting better noise rejection, higher sector density, and improved network scalability.

One Sector Antenna for 5 and 6 GHz

Asymmetrical Horn WB antennas can be deployed in 5 GHz, 6 GHz, or wideband networks, depending on the connected radio, TwistPort™ Adaptor, and local regulatory conditions.

This gives WISPs the flexibility to continue building and expanding existing 5 GHz networks while preparing the same antenna infrastructure for the growing adoption of 6 GHz equipment.

Operators no longer need to select an antenna based only on the radio generation available today. The antenna can remain part of the network as radios, spectrum availability, and deployment strategies evolve.

“The Wideband platform is not a single product launch. It is the foundation of the next generation of our antenna portfolio,” said Juraj Taptic, CEO of RF elements. “By adding Asymmetrical Horns and 4x4 products only a few months after introducing our first Wideband antennas, we are building a complete platform for the transition from 5 to 6 GHz. WISPs can choose the beam shape and deployment architecture they need without giving up future flexibility.”

New 4x4 Asymmetrical Horn WB Antennas

RF elements also introduced two new antennas designed for high-performance 4x4 outdoor deployments:

AH60WB-4x4-SMA - 60° 4x4 Asymmetrical Horn WB
AH90WB-4x4-SMA - 90° 4x4 Asymmetrical Horn WB

The new 4x4 Asymmetrical Horn WB Antennas bring the noise rejection, controlled beam performance, and scalability of the Asymmetrical Horn platform to the growing category of 4x4 MIMO access points.

The antennas support several radio and network configurations. They can be used as single-carrier 4x4 sectors in either 5 GHz or 6 GHz. They can also support two independent 2x2 radios operating in 5 GHz, 6 GHz, or across both bands, depending on the selected feeds and radio equipment.

An integrated TwistPort™ connector provides additional deployment options using RF elements TwistPort™ Adaptors. The dual-radio mounting architecture allows radios to be installed on either side of the antenna.

This gives operators one antenna platform for multiple deployment scenarios, including:
- Single-carrier 4x4 operation in 5 GHz or 6 GHz
- Dual-carrier 2x2 operation
- Wideband 5 + 6 GHz operation with compatible radio equipment
- Backup and failover configurations
- Dual 4x4 or higher-order sector configurations using multiple antennas

The 4x4 models are supplied with connectorized 6 GHz TwistPort™ feeds and matching pigtails for single-carrier 4x4 deployments.

TwistPort™ Cross-Platform Connectivity

All new Asymmetrical Horn WB antennas use the RF elements TwistPort™ waveguide connector.

Radios with a compatible TwistPort™ interface connect directly to the antenna. Other radio platforms can be integrated through dedicated TwistPort™ Adaptors, allowing one antenna family to support equipment from multiple radio manufacturers.

Separating the radio from the antenna protects infrastructure investment and gives WISPs greater freedom when selecting, replacing, or upgrading active equipment.

The current TwistPort™ Adaptor portfolio includes solutions designed for either 5 GHz or 6 GHz radios, matching the capabilities of equipment currently available on the market. Wideband TwistPort™ Adaptors will support radios capable of operating across both bands as such products enter the market.

New Industrial and Mechanical Design

The Asymmetrical Horn WB Series introduces a completely new industrial design focused on compact dimensions, low weight, environmental resistance, and efficient manufacturing.

The antenna bodies are produced from precision-cut and formed marine-grade aluminium using a proprietary manufacturing process developed by RF elements. The antennas are powder-coated for additional environmental protection and a discreet appearance in outdoor installations.

Compared with previous-generation 5 GHz Asymmetrical Horn TP models with similar beamwidths, the new Wideband antennas are almost 50% lighter. Their compact size reduces tower loading and makes them suitable for installations where conventional sector antennas may be restricted by their size or visual impact.

The products use corrosion-resistant materials, including marine-grade aluminium, extruded aluminium, stainless steel, zinc alloy, and outdoor-grade ABS plastic. Stainless-steel hardware features a protective surface coating to reduce galling during installation.

A separate reversible mounting bracket simplifies installation and adjustment. The bracket is installed on the pole first, after which the antenna slides into place. Azimuth and elevation can be adjusted using only one tool.

The 4x4 models use a reinforced stainless-steel mounting system designed for the additional size and loading of the dual-feed antenna architecture.

Developed and Manufactured in Slovakia

The new Asymmetrical Horn WB and 4x4 antenna families were developed in-house by RF elements and are manufactured at the company’s own production facility in Slovakia, European Union.

Direct control over RF engineering, mechanical design, tooling, testing, and manufacturing allows RF elements to develop complete antenna platforms rather than isolated products. It also enables the company to respond more quickly to changes in radio technology and the practical requirements of WISP networks.

The expansion of the Wideband portfolio represents another step in RF elements’ transition toward a common 5 and 6 GHz product platform covering sector, directional, 2x2, and 4x4 applications.

WISPAPALOOZA 2024

The new Asymmetrical Horn WB and 4x4 Asymmetrical Horn WB antennas are being presented publicly at WISPAPALOOZA 2024 in Las Vegas. Visitors can see the new products and discuss their 5 GHz, 6 GHz, and 4x4 deployment options directly with the RF elements team during the show.

Product specifications, radiation patterns, compatibility information, and availability details are available through the RF elements website and authorised distribution partners.
